Leandro Leviste
President and Chief Executive Officer
Solar Philippines, Philippines

Leandro Leviste leads Solar Philippines, Southeast Asia's largest solar company and only integrated solar developer, investor, manufacturer, and EPC, with a mission to accelerate the global transition towards a solar powered future, to lower the cost of solar and making the Philippines a first-world nation. In 2013, Leviste founded Solar Philippines as a sophomore at Yale University (he was president of the Yale Student Council in his freshmen year), and since then grew the company, which now has 300MW in projects and 600 employees. Leviste has purposefully built Solar Philippines as a company not motivated by profit, but creating a social impact, by lowering power rates and bringing reliable electricity to every Filipino.

Solar Philippines develops, constructs, and operates solar farms that power millions of households across the Philippines. The company devotes disproportionate time to  bringing low-cost solar energy to marginalized areas, as demonstrated by its 8MWh Solar-Battery Micro-Grid project in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro, the first solar microgrid of that scale in Asia, which has brought 24/7 power to a town of 20,000 people. By opening the first Filipino solar panel factory in 2017, Solar Philippines has created 1000 manufacturing jobs, and brought down the cost of solar, and disrupted the local power industry, by closing an 85 MW Power Supply Agreement with Meralco at Php 2.99/kWh the lowest cost of any new power plant in Philippine history.

Leviste has a long list of awards and recognition to his name. In 2016, Leviste was recognized by Forbes on its inaugural 30 under 30 Asia, topping its list for Energy and Industry; he has been featured by CNBC, The Guardian, and Channel News Asia, among international media outlets, and has spoken at international forums across the US, Europe, and Asia, as an authority on solar in Southeast Asia, and an advocate for solar and storage technology to replace fossil fuel and serve off-grid areas. Leviste has shown his he is uninterested in business itself, consistently lowering costs, thus forgoing profits to consumers, and serving marginalized areas; rather, he is motivated by giving every Filipino access to cheap, clean, reliable electricity.
